Introduction of a tourist tax in Koblenz
On 27 March 2025, Koblenz City Council resolved to introduce a tourist tax for the city in accordance with the Rhineland-Palatinate Local Tax Act (KAG). A visitor’s levy will be charged to visitors who stay overnight in the Koblenz city area in return for payment, and the revenue will be earmarked for tourism development. The city intends to introduce the levy on 1 January 2027.
The tourist tax is intended, in particular, to strengthen marketing, leisure and service provision in Koblenz, thereby enhancing the quality of the visitor experience, improving the destination’s competitiveness and thus contributing to greater demand, higher occupancy rates and rising turnover in the tourism sector.
